This image of the moon was obtained on October 26, 2007 using a Canon 1D Mark II 8-megapixel digital camera, a 500 mm f/4 L IS lens with a 2x teleconverter and IS was on. The total focal length is 1000 mm for a full scale of 1.7 arc-seconds per pixel. The image is a single frame HAND HELD 1/500 second at f/9.1, ISO 200. Exposure was manual. The camera was set for high speed mode (8.5 frames per second), single shot (whihc sets the focus when the shutter is first pressed). I sometimes use this mode when tracking animals. The raw image was converted in CS3.
Full moon was at 10:52 pm MDT and this image was taken at 9:39 pm MDT, so the image was taken about 1.2 hours from full moon. The sun-moon-earth angle for my location was 4 degrees (at about 2 degrees the moon enters the Earth's shadow).
The full resolution image can be seen HERE.
