High in the Colorado Rockies, above tree line, the tundra turns brilliant red in the fall. The 5 to 7 leaf plants are wild strawberries; some have turned red, while others are still green. The 4x5 image shows detail on the ice crystal faces and make eye catching enlargements 20x30 inches and larger. A similar image won Best of Show in the 1997 U. S. Geological Survey National Photography Contest, so I went back to the same location in 1998 and took this image, which I like much better.

This large format (4x5) image is 16695 x 13150 pixels (drum-scanned at about 3300 pixels per inch - ppi) allows 43.8 x 55.6 inch enlargements at 300 ppi.
