SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION:
Slightly to moderately weathered basalt with a slight vesicular texture; some filled with calcite. Rock has a fine grained ground mass with a few augite phenocrysts. Its purple color is due to hematite.
END_SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION.
XRD_ANALYSIS:
Major: Calcite
Minor: Anorthite, Augite, Hematite
Trace: Montmorillonite
Note: Calcite is a minor component of the rock as a whole
END_XRD_ANALYSIS.

END_MICROSCOPIC_EXAMINATION.
IMAGE_OF_SAMPLE: Not Available
SPECTROSCOPIC_DISCUSSION:
Strong Fe+2 (Augite) absorption feature at one micron with a lesser signature of Fe+3 (Hematite) in the visible to near-IR. Minor Calcite and Montmorillonite absorption features occur at 2.3 and 2.2 microns.
