An astounding view in the early morning in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, Alaska. A bald eagle waits on a branch for an opportunity to catch a salmon, while a juvenile bald eagle flies overhead to a higher perch. November, 2019. Note the white spots in the trees near the bottom. Those are bald eagles and show nicely on the full resolution image.
Technical. This image was obtained with a stock Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens at 400 mm at f/8, with an exposure of 1/640 at ISO 200. Manual exposure. This image is a 6-frame mosaic with depth of field stacking. The eagle on the branch in the foreground was closer than possible to get sharp with the background at 400 mm, even at f/32, so I did focus stacking. While imaging the adult bald eagle, I had luck with a juvenile bald eagle that flew in crossing the focus plane of the adult eagle. Full resolution image is 34 megapixels.
