Comet Lovejoy C2013-R1 December 28, 2013

Comet Lovejoy puts on a nice show in the morning sky, December 28, 2013. The tail shown here was about 6 degrees in length and about half that length was visible in 7x50 binoculars.

Technical. Canon 1D Mark IV 16-megapixel digital camera, Canon 200 mm f/2.8 lens at f/2.8, ISO 1600. Twenty 61-second exposure combined (20.3 minutes of exposure time). Full image, no crop. Stacking alignment was on the head of the comet. tracking with an Astrotrac. No flats, no darks.
