Great Blue Herons, Delivering a Stick for the Nest

This nesting pair of Great Blue Herons are building their nest. The male finds a stick and flies back to the nest and delivers it to the female. Here the female is accepting the the stick, then she placed it in the nest. It is a beautiful example of working together. Venice Rookery, Florida.

Technical: Canon D60 camera, 500 mm f/4 IS lens at f/4, 1/2000 sec at ISO 200. This is a mosaic of two frames, no crop. The main frame covers the birds and their feet. The second frame imaged the nest below their feet.

Wild and free. No calls or bait were used to acquire this image.
