The moon rises in partly cloudy skies over the city of Denver, photographed from Green Mountain. Yes, this is a real photo of the moon rising. It is not a composite. This image is from the in-camera jpeg. The red color is due to the thin clouds, much like a sunrise or sunset. The moon appears so large because it was taken with a telephoto lens, and the city was several miles away.
Technical: Canon 1D Mark II 8-megapixel camera, Canon 500 mm f/4 L IS lens at f/4.5 0.6 second at ISO 400, meter -1.7 stops, mirror lockup.
