The temperature was around -10 degrees F and even though there were no coronal mass ejections from the Sun, and only low level geomagnetic activity predicted, the night was filled with all-sky colorful aurora. Yellow shows were red and green show along the field of view. The bright yellow band in the center of the image is looking up the curtain. Visually, the greens, reds and yellows were pastel green, red and yellow.

The foreground is the frozen Middle Fork of the Koyukuk River in the Brooks Range. The mountain is unnamed and about 4860 feet high.

The constellation Leo is at upper right, and Bootes at upper left. The bright star near the left edge, center is Arcturus.
